A quiet night
Young Samuel served God with Eli at the sanctuary. One night, Samuel was lying down when he heard someone call his name.
Did you call me?
Samuel ran to Eli and said that he had heard him call. Eli said he had not called and sent Samuel back to lie down. This happened again.
Helpful advice
Eli realised that God was calling Samuel. He told Samuel how to answer if the voice called again. Samuel returned to his place and waited.
Ready to listen
God called again. Samuel answered, “Speak; for your servant hears.” Samuel was learning to listen with help from someone older and wiser.
