Noah and the rainbow
Genesis 6:9–9:17 · Retold for children
An important task
Noah walked with God. When God told him to build an ark, Noah listened and began the work. An ark is a very large boat.
A safe place
Noah’s family entered the ark, and animals came too. Rain fell and water rose, but the ark floated. The family waited through a long and difficult time.
A little olive leaf
After the rain stopped, Noah sent out birds. A dove returned with a fresh olive leaf. Later, the ground became dry enough for everyone to leave.
A promise in the sky
Noah thanked God. God made a covenant with Noah, his family and living creatures. The rainbow was a sign of God’s promise never again to destroy all life with a flood.
