Jonah gets a new beginning
Jonah 1–4 · Retold for children
The other direction
God sent Jonah to Nineveh, but Jonah boarded a ship going another way. A great storm came while the ship was at sea.
A surprising rescue
Jonah ended up in the sea, and God appointed a great fish to swallow him. Jonah prayed from inside the fish. After three days and nights, the fish put him onto dry land.
Try again
God called Jonah again. This time Jonah went to Nineveh and gave God’s message. The people turned from their wrong ways, and God showed them mercy.
Learning about mercy
Jonah was upset that Nineveh received mercy. God taught him that the people of the city mattered. Jonah still had something to learn about compassion.
